About me
Hi I’m Jenny, a journalist who has embraced the ‘woo woo’ world of coaching.
I am on a mission to help people feel happier in their careers, focusing on what career happiness means for them.
You don't have to be unhappy in your career to work with a coach! It might be you want a promotion, to make a sideways move or to go it alone in the world of self-employment and freelancing.
It might be you just want to feel happier in the role you're in right now, or that you are job hunting and need some clarity and direction.
Blending coaching and writing…
I'm a coaching evangelist - I used to think it was 'woo woo' until I had coaching and then I converted! I have seen the power of coaching in myself and my clients - and you can read what they have to say in my recommendations.
I've worked in staff roles at national newspapers and magazines as well as freelancing for the BBC and Press Association (PA).
My work has covered everything from writing about my love life to interviewing Tom Kerridge three times, via Elizabeth Glibert, Brene Brown and Kourtney Kardashian. I've tried and tested everything from Easter Eggs to Tough Mudder in the name of a feature.
Fun facts: I have appeared on Woman's Hour and performed stand up at the Edinburgh Fringe.
What is career happiness coaching?
Career happiness is different for everyone. One person’s desire for promotion is another’s yearning to go part-time, while a freelancer might crave a contract, and someone might want to go self-employed after years in a ‘safe role’. There is the ick of social media and LinkedIn to contend with too. For some, career happiness is about money, for others it’s about flexibility.
Coaching is like untangling a ball of wool or erasing a messy doodle.
I’m a big fan of analogies! For some clients we look at all the things they want or need to do for work like cooking a banquet or roast dinner. For others, it’s about comparing a career pivot to training for a marathon. In those scenarios there is always someone offering ‘advice’ or ‘insight’.
Coaching cuts out the noise of everyone else. There is no well-meaning friend, no wine-quaffing colleague, no Instagram scroll to interrupt your thoughts. Just me, the coach, holding the space for you to explore what’s really going on for you, deep down inside.
Being coached isn’t always easy - it’s challenging, but then, if you’ve decided to go for it you’re ready for a challenge, right?
There are moments when, as a client, you’ll realise what action you need to take, and that can be super scary. That’s where I come in again, ‘holding your hand’ as you take those steps, and cheerleading for you, too.
Then there are the ‘yes!’ moments, the lightbulb moments where you have clarity and confidence and you begin to see a clear way forward that’s going to work for you.
As your coach I walk beside you as you take the steps forwards to your goals. I offer pure coaching – this is ‘client led’ and is all about you. I don’t make suggestions, or give ideas, but instead, I leave space for you to find the answers yourself. To find those ‘yay moments.
Because that’s where the power is! I use pure coaching techniques to lead you through the maze, to help you untangle that wool on your terms, nobody else’s.
We work together, unpicking and unravelling, finding the knots and working out what doesn’t serve you to make space for what does.
